2019 Southern Golf Clubs Championship: 25 Clubs Compete for the Multi-Billion VND Championship Title

Following the success of the Southern 6 Clubs Golf Exchange, supported by enthusiastic golfers and sponsors, Golf Pro Company and Tan Son Nhat Golf Course partnered to organize the 2019 Southern Clubs Golf Championship – Tasmania Cup. This is the largest event of the year with the participation of 25 Southern golf clubs.

“In recent years, the golf movement nationwide and in the South has developed strongly, with amateur tournaments held more frequently and becoming increasingly professional. However, the traditional individual Stroke Play based on Handicap scoring has gradually become saturated and repetitive. Therefore, team-focused tournaments and new formats are gradually being introduced to increase the fun and diversity in Vietnam’s golf movement,” shared Mr. Trinh Van Thanh – Chairman of the Organizing Committee during the announcement ceremony of the Southern Clubs Golf Championship 2019.

 

 

The organizing committee announced the tournament on the morning of July 29th. It is expected to gather 300 golfers from 25 teams, each team comprising 12 members. Notably, this time, there is a single female club participating – Ladies Golf & Beauty Club. According to the tournament format, the organizers will arrange staggered tee times for each member to ensure fairness and compliance.

The Tasmania Cup Championship offers a substantial prize structure. In the team competition, the champion club will be awarded a golf tour abroad for all 12 members. Details of the trip will be updated before the tournament to motivate the teams further. Additionally, outstanding individuals in groups A, B, C, D, and the women’s category will receive trophies and medals.

In addition, there are two high-value Hole In One prizes – two Volkswagen cars at holes 8D and 5A valued at nearly 4 billion VND. Typically, Hole In One prizes are hard to win, so the organizers have adjusted the hole distances to increase chances. Specifically, all Hole In One holes are set at 165 yards (about 151 meters) for men and 130 yards (about 119 meters) for women.
